Analysis Features

  • ASME code updates for 2007 addenda.
  • Added option to combine wind and seismic loads for horizontal vessels (this was already possible for vertical vessels).
  • For the Lap-joint flanges the minimum required thickness of the "lap" (which sits on the flange) is now calculated.
  • Minimum design metal temperature (MDMT) is now calculated for standard ANSI Flanges.
  • The Fatigue curve per ASME Div. II can be specified for the elements at the nozzle-vessel junction.

New Features and Enhancements in Version 2007
  • ASME code 2006 updates including those to material properties, Yield Stress Table, UHX, Appendix 2 etc.
  • The program can now perform load case factoring ie: 1.25WI + 1.1OW + IP. This helps comply with requests for combining Wind and Seismic in the same load case.
  • Added Brazilian Wind Code, NBR 6123. 
  • More Local Stress Analysis Options (Sustained, Expansion, Occasional). PV Elite can now use the global coordinate system for loadings on nozzles using WRC 107 and compare to defined allowables.
  • The entire EN and PD:5500 databases were reconstructed using material specifications supplied by BSI. The database now contains listings of UTS and yield versus temperature. 
  • There is now an option to import nozzle loads from CAESAR II output versions 4.5, 5.0 and 5.10. 
  • PV Elite can also import nozzle loads from Excel.
  • PV Elite now computes Heat Exchanger Shellside and Tubeside MAWP's and MAPnc's by iteration. 
  • There are overrides for various Heat Exchanger Inputs such as MAWP, MAPnc and hydrotest pressures on the shell and channel side.
  • The nozzle design pressures have been updated to go along with the new exchanger MAWP calculations. If the MAWP option is used for nozzle design in Exchangers, PV Elite has now separated these values out for the shell and channel sides.
  • EN Skirt Analysis. The holes in skirt analysis now checks the additional requirements based on the EN-13445 design rules.
  • The India Seismic Code was updated for the 2002 version of IS-1893.
  • The Support Lug design now includes bolt area requirements and Bottom plate thickness requirements from AD-Merkblatt have also been added.
  • There have been updates to the ASCE-98/02/IBC 03 Seismic Codes for vertical load considerations.
  • The ASCE 7-05 Wind Code is now referenced (same as the previous code).
  • User defined section ring data is now stored in the input file. For custom section rings, the data can be easily recalled.
  • Updated and improved Output processor, specially the export to MS Word.
  • The Chinese Wind Code GB 50011 - 2001 has been added.

  • The ASME Ring dialog has been altered for increased functionality when the Add a Ring Group option is selected. 
  • For ASME, the modulus of Elasticity for the material is shown in the materials property dialog. 
  • For nozzles selected using the FVC button, the data is now stored and can be recalled.
  • For hub nozzles, there is a new option to recompute the bevel angle to either 30 or 45 degrees when the hub thickness changes. Keeping the other values constant, PV Elite will change the hub height.
  • PV Elite now computes the required thickness of elliptical and torispherical straight flanges per all Codes.

Component Analysis (CodeCalc) Enhancements in Version 2007:

    New Features and Enhancements in Version 2006

    • ASME VIII Division 1, 2, and Section II Part D updates. Includes new yield stress database.
    • Other Code changes include those made to Appendix 1-4(f), Appendix 2 (rigidity is now mandatory), Appendix 26 (Expansion Joint Design)
    • PVElite has added calculations per ASME UG-39 for single/multiple openings on flat heads.
    • Nozzles in Flat heads are now addressed for the PD:5500 and EN-13445 Codes.
    • In the tubesheet input, there is now an option to enter Appendix 26 thin bellows expansion joint data. After typing in the data, the results can be reviewed immediately using the calculator button.
    • ASME Code Case 2286 has been added as an option to PVElite. These are alternate rules for determining allowable external pressure and allowable compressive stresses for combinations of stress due to weight, bending moment and external pressure as well as shear. Stiffening ring calculations on cylinders are also included as well as cone/shell ring calculations.
    • A new autosave feature has been added this version.
    • A new nozzle pressure design option which computes the MAWP of the vessel and adds the static pressure to the nozzle location has been added.
    • The List feature now contains an option to switch between the ANSI Metric and ANSI Imperial Nozzle tables.
    • There is now an alternate method for checking wide flange, channel type, and T shaped legs. This method breaks down the load due to wind or seismic into its component directions and resolves the stresses around each axis using the Unity Check approach.
    • For horizontal vessels on saddle supports, PVElite now examines the rings over each saddle independently and uses the appropriate ring properties when computing the stresses in the ring and the shell at the stiffener.
    • When hydrotesting large horizontal vessels, there is an option to add short term intermediate (crib) supports to keep saddle stresses within computed allowables in some cases.
    • The liquid dialog has a new button that clarifies the entry of liquid from the datum line. d to the vessel.
    • The unit labels in the units files have been revised for consistency with international standards.
    • In the material database selection dialogs, a "Search Again" feature has been added that allows repeat searching for the entered material.
    • In the seismic code selection, the IBC 2003 Seismic design code has been added.
    • Some extra logic has been added that updates the ring diameters for bar type rings. When the vessel diameter or thickness is changed, the ring diameters will automatically be changed as well.
    • The "Nozzle Schedule" report has been updated to include nozzle cut length calculations.
    • Rectangular platforms can now be added on horizontal vessels in the same manner as vertical vessels.
    • Flange pressure ratings for several DIN specifications have been added.

    Component Analysis Features in Version 2006:

    • ASME VIII Division 1, 2, and Section II Part D updates. Includes new yield stress database.

    • In WRC-107 module the loads can be converted from one convention to another with a flip of a button from the input screen.
    • A new autosave feature has been added this version.
    • The variable names used in the input echo and output of the flange and floating head modules were made consistent with the ASME code's nomenclature.
    • The recommendation for the minimum gasket width was added in floating head calculations.

      • A button was added that allows nozzles to be entered from the datum line. When the button is pressed, this puts a preprocessor dialog on the nozzle input that allows the distance from the datum to be entered.
      • In the input, General Tab, a toolbar with arrow buttons is available that allows users to switch between different elements.

      • Pressing the F5 key on the keyboard now refreshes the on-screen display of results.
